When should thrombosis prophylaxis stockings be worn?
Medical thrombosis prophylaxis stockings have been proven to reduce the onset of venous thromboses and venous pulmonary embolism in immobile, bedridden patients.
This is why wearing medical thrombosis prophylaxis stockings is always indicated when the patient is immobilised for a longer period of time. This applies even more during resting phases, i.e. especially at night.
Once the patient can walk around, the thrombosis prophylaxis stockings can be taken off for the time that he is mobile (see AWMF note for guidance "Medical thrombosis prophylaxis stocking CMTS)", No. 037/006, last revised on 06 May 2004).
