Insoles for children

It is particularly important to react early to malpositioning or incorrect weight-bearing in children.

This may be congenital, occur in different growth phases or be caused by shoes that are too small.

The igli Junior insole is the ideal solution to prevent long-term problems with feet and posture.

It was developed especially for the particular needs of children and teenagers. It supports the feet during the growth phase and can positively affect posture.

Therapy for flat feet in young children

Parents in particular are always fascinated by the mobility of the tiny limbs of their newborns. At this stage, babies seem to care little about whether they can explore the world with their little hands or feet. This is because the foot of a newborn is first a gripping organ before it develops into a walking organ. Every once in a while, deformities of the little feet occur, such as a highly arched foot, flat feet or splay feet. Such a deformity is harmless in many cases and sorts itself out after birth. Otherwise, your orthopaedist may assess the need for therapy, for example with suitable orthopaedic insoles.

Dr Stefan Wilke, specialist in orthopaedics, trauma surgery and paediatric orthopaedics gave an interview on the topic ‘Therapy for flat feet in young children’, which you can find here.

First signs of foot deformities in young children

Highly arched foot

Highly arched foot

If the longitudinal foot arch is very narrow in imprints of wet feet on the floor, a highly arched foot may be present.

Flatfoot

Flatfoot

The first sign of flatfoot is when the longitudinal foot arch appears unusually wide in imprints of wet feet on the floor.

Splayfoot

Splayfoot

The first sign of splayfoot is a particularly wide transverse foot arch in imprints of wet feet on the floor.

The most common reason why children are admitted to the orthopaedic practice is flatfoot. This foot position is of a physiological nature up to an age of about six to seven years and therefore does not necessarily have to be treated.

General tips

Avoid foot deformities in children

We are happy to provide you with some tips on how to counteract incorrect positioning of your child.

Do not buy the first pair of shoes too early. No shoes are required for the foot’s development before the child can walk alone:

    1. Choosing the right shoes for children is extremely important. Shoes that are too small may result in foot deformities with lifelong consequences. According to a study by the University of Tübingen, two out of three children wear shoes that are too small. Children cannot feel if their feet are restricted.
    2. When buying shoes, use barefoot templates of the foot outline with an added 12 mm to 17 mm. In this way, the shoe will definitely fit your child.
    3. A lightweight shoe with a flexible sole for dynamic rolling is the best choice for counteracting foot deformities in children.
    4. Toothbrushing in a raised tip-toe position is a simple, playful foot gymnastic exercise for everyday life.

    1. Velour cover

For a comfortable fit on both warm and cool days.

    2. Soft foam

The shell shape ensures optimal heel guidance, stabilisation and support of the foot in the shoe.

    3. Carbon support

The flexible carbon support promotes mobility and strengthens the muscles. Due to its low thickness, it does not restrict the radius of the foot’s movement.

    4. Postings

Stimulate the muscles and can be variably adapted to your child’s indication.

    Mode of action

The igli carbon insole for children combines conservative and interactive modes of action in a unique insole system to correct foot deformities in children.

      1. With the aid of postings, the foot position is corrected and the rolling behaviour is specifically influenced when walking.
      2. The musculature can be selectively targeted and activated using the insole’s interface.
      3. The anatomically shaped carbon support allows all biomechanical movement patterns and thus does not restrict the child's foot in its natural mobility.

The insole thus has an effect on what makes children mobile or immobile and contributes to ensuring long-term therapeutic success.
